1st Swallowfield
Beaver Scout Group

Beaver Scouts are aged 6 to 8 years old who are taking their first steps in the Family of Scouting. 1st Swallowfield Beaver Scout Colony has been in existence for many years and is a part of a larger group including Cub Scouts and Scouts. 1st Swallowfield is a mixed group of 24 boys and girls who take part in a wide range of activities both indoor and outdoor. We meet every Monday during the school term in Swallowfield Village Hall from 5.30pm to 6.45pm. A typical Meeting will start with an opening game which continues until everyone has arrived. We then have an opening ceremony followed by a craft. In the recent past we had made fans for Mother's Day, a cress dragon, a glow in the dark light switch, held a beetle drive and tried our hands at junk building with food. We also arrange for visits from representatives of local groups/organisations e.g. Guide Dogs for the Blind, Police, Judo Club.We finish with another game, time permitting, and a closing ceremony. Every six weeks we have an excursion instead of our normal meeting. In the past we have visited Safety Street, Wokingham Craft Centre (to decorate a clay model), Whitley Fire Station, a local farm for lambing, Swallowfield Church and Park, a Synagogue, Yippie's Yard and lots of other places to numerous to mention. Our motto is "Fun and Friends" and that is what we aim to provide each week: an opportunity for different experiences in the comfort and security of a group environment. Penny Paylor and I are the two leaders, assisted by Tom Watts and two junior volunteers from the local community. In addition we have a parents' rota to ensure we are not short of help on the night. We do have a long waiting list so if you are interested please contact us before your child is 6 years old. Sue Taylor Tel: 0118 9326 126 |
